Windows 7 is here!
Microsoft officially launched the product this morning at an event staged deep in the bowels of Sydney's National Maritime Museum.
We weren't sure it was the most apt venue imaginable, seeing as all the boats on display are either so old they cannot be used any more, are historical curiosities, or were raised from the deeps after sinking. The fact that the Museum's prize exhibition is called "HMAS Vampire" is probably not something Microsoft wants you to consider, either.
What does Microsoft want you to consider? The word "simple" got about a million outings, because Microsoft wants you to think that Windows 7 simplifies the PC experience.
The company was also at pains to point out how consultative it has been in terms of seeking feedback about what users want from a desktop OS.
Very late in the presentation, the company also made it clear that this event was the Consumer launch for the product, which explains why there are so few references to business in this liveblog. For the record, none of the press material offered to TechTarget ANZ characterised the event as a consumer launch. We asked Microsoft about this later, and they said TechEd was the business launch. Sadly, we were not able to attend that event this year.
